Laying Down a Horse

Today is day 2 of teaching Cedar to lay down. He’s doing quite well and is willing to place his left knee on the ground and hold it there for several seconds. We can’t do too much per day since his right leg will start shaking. This is probably analogous to doing a one-armed pushup for a person.

I tried to gently pull him over onto his side using the horn of the Western saddle but the girth wasn’t tight enough and the saddle rotated.

We’re using ginger snap cookies as treats, since Cedar is far easier to train with treats in addition to praise and the (release of) pressure.
